Geometry Explorers
The students of the Mathematics Club, under the guidance of Mrs. Roussaki, once again discovered the creative and fun side of Mathematics this year through conversations with scientists, original activities, and imaginative materials. At the same time, as part of the European e-Twinning programme "Geometry Explorers", they collaborated with schools from Slovenia, Turkey, Spain, Italy, and France, and organized activities that promoted knowledge, teamwork, and communication.
With great interest, students from our school's Mathematics Club took part in an online interview with physicist Anastasia Tezari from CERN, as part of the students' introduction to the contemporary world of scientific research.
During the interview, the scientist spoke about her journey from her Physics studies to her professional career at CERN, while also presenting important information about current experiments, international collaborations, and the work of this leading research organization. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of scientific research as a key driver of the advancement of knowledge and technology, as well as a process that fosters critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration among scientists from different countries and scientific fields.
This activity followed on from the recent educational visit by our school's teachers, Konstantina Giakoumopoulou and Maria Roussaki, to the CERN facilities, as part of their participation in the Physics Outreach Educational Programme at CERN (15–19 April 2026).
Through the interview and the activity as a whole, students had the opportunity to approach Physics as a living and accessible field of knowledge, discovering how science substantially contributes to understanding the world and to the progress of society. At the same time, the school's connection to contemporary scientific knowledge and research was strengthened, offering students valuable inspiration for their future.
