Sewing

Alexandra Lupu
“The sewing activity began with a step-by-step tutorial on how to create our own customised pouches using recycled materials. The first step was measuring, followed by cutting the fabric, and then sewing our names in Greek on a patch. Some participants didn’t know how to sew, so we helped each other out. The mentor used a sewing machine to assemble the bags. This lesson taught us a new way to reuse old fabrics and turn them into something useful.

“In preparation for the sewing workshop, students from our school brought old and no longer used pieces of fabric to the school grounds. During the workshop, a mix of Romanian and Greek students were shown how to sew and had the chance to create with the guidance of the instructors their own bags after choosing the piece of fabric they liked. Additionally, they were able to sew their name in Greek on a piece of jeans. The purpose of this activity was for the students to learn the valuable lesson of upcycling (seeing how an old piece of fabric was turned into a pouch) while also learning how to sew. To my mind, the Sewing workshop helped the students understand the valuable lesson of reusing, something that is crucial in our lives since we are going through an environmental crisis and therefore should minimize our waste.”

Fast Fashion

Alexandra L
“The workshop was focused on making an art project. The collage was made out of several pieces of fabric that weren't needed anymore which we cut in the shape of various clothing items. While working on this project we talked about the negative impact that fast fashion has on us and also how we shouldn't overbuy clothes.”

“At the art workshop, we cut out small imitations of clothes from thrifted fabrics the teacher provided. Afterwards, we taped them together to symbolise fast fashion and its harmful effects on the environment, such as pollution. While some people cut the pieces of clothing, others taped them, so that we could finish faster. Throughout the whole workshop we got to meet the other students and we shared our music tastes, as well as listening to each other's favorite songs from their country.”
Ecological footprint
“It happened in the computer lab with a consumption footprint test and we all had good results.”
Antonia
“During this workshop we calculated our ecological footprint. Then we watched a presentation about our ecological footprints and we teamed up in groups in order to discuss ways to minimise our ecological footprints. Each team had both Greek and Romanian students. After talking about possible solutions, two people from each group presented them to everyone. The workshop was a lot of fun! I enjoyed meeting new people and I believe the topics we talked about are highly important!”

Hate speech
“In this activity we learned more about what is a hate speech, the reasons behind why a person would spread hate, how it affects the victims. who are the main targets and what to do if u are the victim. At the end of the activity, in groups of 3, we made a infographic on the matter. In my opinion, it is an current subject that should be thought in schools.”
Alexandra L.
“During the activity, we were shown a presentation regarding hatred expressed by people online. More specifically, we talked about the causes of hate speech, the target groups that it affects, the forms of hate speech and how victims should act to handle the issue effectively. We also made online posters in groups, so that we could spread awareness about this common phenomenon.”
